The Morrígan
Celtic Goddess of War

This doll is in the home of a private collector and is not available for sale or duplication

The Morrígan is a Celtic triple goddess comprised of the goddesses Nemain (Frenzy), Macha, and Badb (the Vulture). She is known by many names including the Phantom Queen, Great White Goddess, and the Queen of the Faeries. The Morrígan is a goddess of battle, strife, and fertility. She frequently appears in the ornithological guise of a hooded crow or raven. Metaphorically speaking, one is a crow of battle that feeds on the fallen, and the other is the announcer of impending death. The Morrígan is also seen prior to a battle washing the bloody laundry of those destined to die. According to the lore, she came to her ways of blood lust as a result of the death of her son. She is one of the Tuatha De Danann (People of the Goddess Danu)

DETAILS

The Morrígan's dress is made of a magnificent vintage black velvet from a hand-drafted pattern. It has hand beaded celtic knot work down the front and is laced and held with more beads. She wears a sterling silver arm band stamped in celtic knot work on her left arm, a sterling silver wrist band in the shape of a snake on her left wrist and one in the shape of a spider on her right. Her hair band also bears a celtic design and both it and her necklace are also sterling silver.

Her cape has several hundred hand sorted, trimmed and placed glossy black feathers. It is fully lined in 100% black silk.

The Morrígan's face has been lightly re-sculpted and given a complete makeover with artist quality acrylic paints and sealer. Both hands have been slightly remolded.

Her Sword and Knife are *NOT* toys - they are hand ground carbon steel and ARE sharp! The weapons and her stand were hand made by VKW. (please see our "about me" page for more on VKW!)

Yes, it's now a Google group - due to the great screw up of 2010 if you DID belong to the original Yahoo group, you were deleted (by Yahoo, not me) without notice, Google may not be as 'click and point' user friendly, but at least they won't delete the group arbitrarily?
